Wierd alignment stuff?

Hi, I'm rather new to running a MUD, and I just subscribed, so bear with me.
(Yes, I read all the documentation.)  Anyway, I am running the latest beta-
version of CircleMUD (patch level 9, I think) and I'm having a problem with
the player's alignment for killing things.  It seems that no matter what the
MOB's alignment is, your align. goes down (aka. you get eviller) when you kill
it.  Since I'm trying to implement a paladin-like class which cannot cast
spells if their align. < 350, this is a big problem.  Any ideas?
