You might consider running it at a lower PID.  This would take up a bit
more memory, but would use a bunch less of the cpu.  96.3% is way too much
for a "STAT R" process.

I've never seen gdb output like this, so I can't comment on its
signifigance.

I've got a suggestion for anyone who submits code for public consumption.
If your patch changes the Makefile, it should act on the Makefile.in and
Makefile.WIN instead, for a little extra portablilty.  Actully this
applies to anyone who changes their Makefile.  It's a pain in the butt to
rebuild a currupted Makefile if the Makefile.in doesn't correspond to the
code.
