How's this for an idea, if stock starts you out at 17 years old, it's
hardly realistic you're going to be a necromancer. What I have imp'ed in
my
code is system where by you start as a non-descript class, and at a
certain level of experience you *have* to choose a class to learn
or train anything else. Later on, you have to make a similar choice
and choose a sub-class. Entry restrictions on some classes/sub-classes
mean that you have to train in certain skills or abilities before on the
limited amount of practices you receive when you level. For example
to progress from the basic class to the warrior class you must have your
sword skill at 60% and both your STR and CON at 17 (bear in mind new
characters are starting with 14 in these stats).
I think this adds more realism to the game, as you take an active
part in shaping your character as you *progress* through the MUD,
rather just at creation. It also means, if I want to restrict some
classes to, I just hide the guildmaster neccessary for a character
to join that class, somewhere real nasty...
   Just another idea.
