Since \e is not recognized by your compiler, you can change it to any
value you wish. (You've already seen that when you changed it to 'e'.)
You should set it to a value that cannot be part of a character's name.
If you like, you could set it to '\005', assuming the MS compiler
recognizes that as character 5.
