Thought I'd share my stupidity...

With .gz files especially, I've noticed that, if you use Netscape or
similar browser to download snippets and/or archives, then the file
becomes majorly corrupted and unusable.  I heartily suggest for all the
newer coders out there to use BINARY transit when FTP-ing, because for
some reason, browsers seem to not like .gz files.
