I've used events to code teleporting rooms which take a while before the
teleport occurs (and the teleport only occurs if the player is in the room
when the event fires). One way this appears to the player can be as a
trap door which opens after they've been standing on it for the time it
takes the event to fire. Another is water currents that are week enough
to allow the player to move, but strong enough to not let them stand
there indefinitely.

Events could also be used to enable delayed spell casting. Or part of
an object transformation sequence. Better work on your imagination
if you're going to take full advantage of them :)
