This could definately cut down memory usage (IMHO).  However, you would
definately need to provide a mechanism to create a copy of an object if a
player "enchants" an item.  In other words, makes an item unique.  Now those
Rusty Gauntlets give him a +1 to str (or whatever).  You don't want to
enchant the prototype (duh) or everyone that has rusty gauntlets will now
have +1 str.

Just my nickles worth of... well something.
