Second Idea: Each time an object/mob name is sent, add a default color
code after the name.  This would be a lot more efficient, as it would
effectively make sure that every time a color is sent, it is auto
fixed.  Now this also means each time you list items and players in a
room, you need to send a color code to color them before each line.
This is standard fare anyways.
