Author: D. Tyler Barnes Format: Patch Tested Patchlevels: 15, 17 On my mud, the DNS is ungodly slow. If you're in a similar situation, this patch may help. It creates a database of host names that can be looked up by IP. The mud checks the local database and takes the host name from there if possible without going to the DNS. Cache entries will expire after a given amount of time (you can set it to however many days you think is appropriate) so it doesn't cut the lag down completely, but it does help significantly. Note that SLOWNS must be turned OFF for this to work. If people use this patches, I would really appreciate an email and possibly a mud telnet address if the mud it has been applied to is open to the public.
