I would REALLY advise against such an item.  A mud I played a long time ago
used to have an item like this, and despite the fact that it was very
difficult to obtain, much less find, it got way out of hand and abused.
Its easy to create new items but its a bitch to take em back from players
once you've realized it totally unbalances the game.

I agree that a cron job would probably be the best bet, or an 'at' job that
resubmits itself if your machine doesnt allow users access to the crontab.
