Well, I tend to agree with you, but at least we can help get him started.
The problem is, as you suspected, that you either don't have GCC, or it's 
not in your path.  Try typing 'cc' at your prompt and see if that works; 
if so, edit the references to GCC in the makefile and use CC; it might 
work, it might not.
