Have you downloaded a completely fresh copy of the MUD on the SVR 4.2
machine and run configure there?  Once you run 'configure', the source
files are all "permanently" configured for that machine unless you manually
delete all the files that configure creates.  Download a completely fresh,
virgin copy of pl9 on the SVR 4.2 machine, run 'configure', and try
compiling.
