A bit in the same line.... In stead of using sendmail one could add to the
list of descriptors a descriptor that would handle POP3 connects. It's much
a) saver than using sendmail (no need to check addresses and stuff) b) I
know it's done (on JoranMud (Rom based)) and that it works.

Furthermore it's pretty easy to add extra descriptors for http access to
the mud and POP3 is also possible. We made our whole helpfile system the
who clan information available through a 'http daemon' build into the mud
(check out http://www.cs.utwente.nl/~ia_remko/rof/).
The POP3 part we never coded but it's more of the same eg add a special
descriptor and handle a 'simple' protocol on it. It's all ASCII so there's
even no need to make changes in socket handling etc.
