I have a patch at http://www.van.ml.org/CircleMUD/gcc280.patch that takes
care of the warnings which GCC 2.8.0 now emits on stock CircleMUD code.

(It suggests braces around ambiguous 'else' statements and warns about
non-int main() functions.)

The new GCC is available at:
ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu/gcc-2.8.0.tar.gz
(Don't forget libstdc++-2.8.0.tar.gz at the same place if you do C++.)
