        Well I got it working by pouring over my ansi-c book. Simply
assigned the pointer before the close with an 'fll = fopen' statement.

        Question I have now, is it necessary to protect against the pointer
being Null as I've seen elsewhere in the code?  Some places seem to do it
while others appear to skip the technique.
