I think you should seriously consider Java.
It's most powerful feature is that it makes the 'other' 99% of the
developers out there more productive, and doesn't inhibit the top 1%
very much at all.
Benefits:
* Networking is simple and powerful.
* Portability (write once, debug everywhere)
* Inherent thread support!
* No memory management headaches.
* Exceptions.
* JDBC
Possible Problems:
* Performance problems
* Memory requirements
* Everyone needs to learn Java.
