dg scripts 'time' variable

I seem to be having trouble with using the time variable. When I try to
assign the current hour to a variable, I use %time.hour% but it doesn't
seem to recognise the variable and then doesn't assign a number. Anyone
have a script snippet that successfully uses the time variable?
