Turned out to be long hours of code and a dosage of C-sickness.  I fixed
it right as I hung up the modem, of course.  *bangs head against desk*  I
have since moved on to new and more interesting methods of breaking my
code this evening. :)

No global arg in bpl21 (or current CVS for that matter).
