######################################################################### # VisionMUD-rel11.README VisionMUD [beargie.kryha.sk 5000] # # written by Yilard of VisionMUD [yilard@earthling.net] # ######################################################################### Release 1.1 This is bugfixed release of VisionMUD. For details check my homepage: http://www.elf.stuba.sk/~markovla -------------------------------------------------------------------------- VisionMUD code released by Yilard of VisionMUD. Hope you'll enjoy this release (I think it's the most advanced code based on CircleMUD available for public). There are both .c code and mud library in this package, because i think it's almost useless to try to understand the code without checking also the format of library (there is lack of documentation :P ) WARNING: This is not intended to be used by beginners. Advanced knowledge of your OS and c libraries might be needed in order to compile this. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This package includes code based on CircleMUD 3.0, originally bpl10 automagically and manually patched up to bpl14. Bpl15 patch cannot be applied automagically due to some screw up in the patch proggie. But most of this patch has been added to the code (especially bugfixes) previously by me as I could see :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- FEATURES of VisionMUD ** Code based on CircleMUD 3.0 bpl 14. ** 12 Classes (Quite strange though, they're quite mixed with some kind or races). ** About 40 areas, mostly Stock Circle, CAW, etc. ** Over 400 commands, over 120 spells, 30 skills, lots of spec-procs. ** Lot's of added zone, room, affect, room-affect, item flags, added item types. ** Object and alias saving of coorz :). ** Working fully configurable trains with timetables. ** Clan system. __CLAN OLC__!!! (not yet completed, though) ** Enhanced MobProgs, allowing to do almost any activity in mobprog (includes delaying script execution etc.), new triggers. ** Menu-based VisionOLC (based on some early build of OasisOLC), with many enhancements written by myself (online MobProg editor, assignment of spec-procs online etc., __ONLINE HELP__!!!-check this out!!! ). ** Lot's of added god commands, most of them commented in online help. ** Dynamic room description loading to decrease the memory load. ** Memory requirements about 5 Megs at startup. ** Tested in various kinds of Unixes (Linux packages: RedHat, Monkey, previous versions also on Ultrix) - see KNOWN BUGS. ** Compressed worldfiles (and all indexed files :) - Using any external unpacking utility such as gzip, bz2 or rar. Zipped and unzipped files may be mixed. ** Useful utilities and scripts (auto-generating indexes, converting standard circle world files into ours). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN BUGS ** Missing documentation ** (Not really a bug) I've only makefile for Unixes (I would never try to compile the VisionMUD under Windoze), I have not touched others!! My configure and Makefile are obsolete because I haven't time so far to maintain them, so probably you'll have to edit them manually. ** Zipping world files significantly slows down the booting process (partially because they're unpacked one after another and not concurrently and partially because most indexed files need to be unpacked 2 times - I'll fix this in the future), so I do not recommend to use it when debugging but only when there is a low quota or something. Otherwise it's quite ok, in normal traffic to zip the worldfiles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- TO-DO's what I'm intended to do in the future: ** Writing some documentation. ** Finish help system (some missing topics, some in Slovak language etc.). ** Ascii playerfiles. ** Commands and OLC in dynamically loaded libraries (workin' on it :). ** Some kind of buffering system... I've tried buffers by George Greer but I've removed it because I've been getting HUGE memory leaks regularly. ** Finish clan system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS OF USE You can use any part of this mud or get inspired by this mud without any restriction if you accept original CircleMUD license and you fulfill my several requests: 1. You must comply original circlemud license found in doc/license.doc 2. Mention me (Yilard) somewhere in your mud, the place depends on the size of the portion you use: If you use whole code as a base for your mud, I want my handle and name to appear in the login screen just after names of circlemud and dikumud authors saying I'm the author of the base. Otherwise if you use only a command or spec-proc mention me only somewhere in the credits and it would be nice to credit all people I credit in my 'credits' (I might not be the author of the portion of code you have actually used - just say you used visionmud) 3. Send me an email to yilard@earthling.net telling me URL of your mud. 4. If you distribude any part of this package this file must be present and intact.
