--------------------------------------------------- CircleMUD v3.00 Beta Patchlevel 17 - BINARY Release --------------------------------------------------- Release Date: 25 May 2000 This is a pre-compiled binary release of CircleMUD v3.00 Beta Patchlevel 17. It was compiled on the following platforms: Windows 9x: Microsoft Visual C++ Studio v4.2 (NMAKE) Linux: Slackware Linux 7 (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) Kernel 2.2.14 Users of other environments are encouraged to TEST out the binaries and subsequently let me know if all works fine. The Linux binary should work on most current Linux systems without fault. The Makefile's (and conf.h headers) used in the compile have been renamed according to the following scheme: Windows: Conf.h -> conf-binary-windows.h Makefile -> Makefile-binary-windows Linux: Conf.h -> conf-binary-linux.h Makefile -> Makefile-binary-linux They're no different to what is produced normally from a CircleMUD configure. IMPORTANT: CircleMUD is freeware (it doesn't cost anything), but it is copyrighted and has a license. You must read and agree to abide by the license before using CircleMUD. Running CircleMUD in any fashion as such binds you to the CircleMUD license, and recursively the DikuMUD license. If you experience any problems or faults, please read the FAQ. It will either solve the problem or point you to a place where your problem may be assisted or even rectified. DISCLAIMER: If you choose to use this binary release, you solely are responsible for its usage. This means, if it nukes your machine, trashes your files, messes up your room or causes you to forget to call your mother, it's your problem. In saying that, I can verify that this entire archive 100% free of any viruses current as of 25 May 2000, and that it didn't do anything to my machine. Of course, backup your files in some fashion often should be done anyhow. You'll be glad you did! Note of course, it is not wise to run this binary on Windows, and then flick to a Linux system and run the Linux binary with the same database files (players, mail, or other etc/ files). It's best to delete such files before running a different server. Apart from that, read ALL of the files included in doc/ for your own sake. They WILL aid you in running CircleMUD, if not serve only as a reference tool. Please don't contact me directly if you experience problems running or operating CircleMUD - contact me only if you experience problems with the archive itself. Two addresses to aid you with direct CircleMUD problems are: 1. bugs@circlemud.org - to report a possible bug, or error with CircleMUD; 2. help@circlemud.org - to get help with some code, to get help executing CircleMUD, etc. Everything that doesn't involve a direct bug or problem with CircleMUD should head here. There is also the CircleMUD Mailing List, which you can subscribe to. Check out the FAQ for further details. Have fun with it! -- Caniffe
