That's actually a neat idea, but what if a player wants to hide
an object in the room?
Or maybe you want a special thief skill ("search") to find these
hidden objects.

Once again I direct the list's attention to Death Gate Cycle, which
has hidden objects, including hide and search skills.
It might take quite some effort to extract all the relevent code
from the DGC source, so it is probably just best to use it as an
example ;)
