[NEWBIE] Compiling with GCC

From: Josh Kragness (SirHomerJ@AOL.COM)

I know this is a really dumb question, but I just had to switch compilers to
GCC and it doesn't seem to be working. Basically, I want to know what I have
to change from the original makefile (I'm using patch level 11) other than the
various directories.

When I try to compile, I just get:

(49) *** Recursive variable `MAKE' references itself (eventually).

Since I am new to GCC (and makefiles in general) I'm not exactly sure what
this means. Any help would be appreciated.
