Well, if the machine has been up for nearly 2/3's of a year, you
probably haven't kept up to date with the latest kernel updates. I don't
see that it would hurt if you rebooted, and perhaps did a bit of upgrading
while you were at it.
It does sound as if the OS is screwing up in this case.
