Why not add an extra descriptor to the room descriptors?  Add the 
capability to define variables, such that:

sign~
"KEEP OUT."
~

might read:
:teleport~
You catch the glimpse of a sign that reads "KEEP OUT" as you feel 
yourself whisked away to elsewhere...
~

This might make things easy to code, but difficult to port to other 
systems of course.
