They'd get a mighty asskicking if they were frozen there for a few
combat rounds.  Whenever I play a thief, my primary use of backstab
is to bring down mobiles that I would normally be killed by or get
badly fucked up by.  The bs/flee/bs/flee/bs loop can really bring down
a mob.  Even worse with multi-class muds that have a 'calm' spell is
a bs/calm/bs/calm loop.  You can't put pauses everywhere.  Still, IMHO
spell casting should be timed and if you backstab and flee you should
gain less exp for the kill (but not loose any if you backstab and stay
in the fight for a few more rounds).
