I think it's because I don't like having one year between patchlevels. :)

That and the MUD I was writing personally thoroughly pissed me off (much to
the dismay of my gf) when it had a buffer overrun (and I didn't know their
behavior at the time) that was caused by a line in the xnames file being
too long.  The bug has since been fixed in stock code. ;)
