Mob hit points

Anyone know how AI can change the max hit points a mob can have?

I changed the structs.h file to make   max_hit an int instead of a short int.

but hgis has not helped.  I need to have mobs with hps greater than 32k (which
is the max currently).  But any mob with greater than that amount will get a 
negative hp, which means they die in one hit....

Any suggestions?
